As our forays into the depth continue, we are able to find new and exciting specimens.  Many of these Hawaiian endemic deepwater species are collected solely by our divers using closed circuit rebreathers.  On a recent dive to 467', two Roa excelsea butterflies were collected.  Previously known only from video footage on deep water submersibles, this was the first time that the Roa excelsea was collected alive.

Also known as the Orange Margin Butterfly, these fish are highly sought after.

While there are many awesome and unique deepwater specimens, there remains one that stands out above the rest.  This true Holy Grail of the abyss is the Masked Angelfish or Genicanthus personatus.
