In 1994, after years of diving as a collector for the big wholesale companies on Oahu, Roy Kimura founded Kaiohi Tropical Fish. He has since retired but not before teaching his son, Rufus Kimura, everything he knew about the tropical fish business. What began as a family hobby is now a rapidly growing company. Located on an acre of land in West Oahu, Kaiohi has six full time divers and imports fish from the Marshall Islands, Christmas Island and Tahiti. At Kaiohi Tropical Fish we are dedicated towards practicing sustainable collecting habits.  All fish are net caught in methods that do not harm or disturb the natural coral environment.  Collection sites are carefully rotated so as not to overfish any one particular area.  Our holding facility consists of four seperate systems.  One of the two larger systems is dedicated to locally caught fish while the other is reserved for our fish that are imported from other countries.  We also have an invertebrate holding system and a coldwater system that is solely for our deepwater specimens.  All fish and inverts are fed daily until they are selected for export.
